The amount of wasted time that disorganization can cause every single morning is often overlooked due to an already established habit. However, simple tweaks here and there, when combined, can add up quite substantially and relieve a lot of the common stress that comes with the morning rush, no matter what your day ahead looks like.
We all have 24 hours in a day and how wisely we use that time can determine how much we can accomplish and increase the quality of our life lived. And the state of mind we start our day with spreads throughout the rest of the day until we catch ourselves and make the shift. In this article, we’ll be sharing some tips to save you time and lessen your stress.
4 Time-Saving Closet Organization Tips
Declutter and Consolidate Your Closet
The first step to effective closet organization is to clear out the clutter in your closet and consolidate your inventory. The simplest categories are Donate, Keep & Trash. Reorganizing your closet and keeping it maintained will be much easier afterwards.
Keep Clothes Organized and Easily Accessible
n order to keep your closet organized, your must have closet organizers , period - otherwise, your clothes and items will just sit on the floor, which we all know, doesn’t work. It’s also not about getting a bunch of shelves and cabinets either because there are different levels of functionality of each organizer, and how they work together is what affects the overall flow and ease of using your closet.
If your closet is in dire need of an upgrade, consider getting a custom closet designed. Some closet companies offer free in-home designs and if you’re lucky, they have 3D softwares to show you the design within the hour. A closet design expert should be able to assess your specific needs to create an intuitive closet that will make finding, sorting and managing your closet much easier.
Have a Place for Everything
Once you have your closet organizers in place to hold all of your clothes, make sure you categorize and group your items together. All of your clothing items should have a default home to go to. You shouldn’t have to “look” for your items because you’ll know exactly where they are. Outside of your closet, your nightstand or any table-top or counter space should be cleared and organized before you go to bed.
When you’re in a rush trying to choose the perfect outfit, you may not have time to put everything back at that point in time. So at the very least, fold up your clothes or stack them neatly on your bed for later. Don’t toss them on a chair or in different places in your room. Assuming your bed is already made (which is should every morning), just fold them neatly on your bed.
Establish Simple, Efficient and Sustainable Habits
After you have your closet organizers set up and have all your clothes sorted and properly stored, it’s time to establish functional and sustainable habits that will be the fuel to your organization vehicle. Without simple and efficient habits, your organizers don’t really matter - your closet and room will still be a mess.
Here are a few habits to adopt. Every night before bed, choose your outfit for the next day and set them aside. That way, you won’t have to figure all that out in the morning when your mental alertness is at a bare minimum! Also, every night before bed, clean your room and make sure every item is back to their default home. That includes your nightstand, counter, clothes, furniture (if moved). To take it one step further, you can apply this concept to your entire home and if you need help with that, download our free Tao of Home Organization guide at the bottom of the page.
