6 Tips to Help Tame the Chaos in Your Kids’ Closets

When looking into your kids’ closets , is it full of clutter? What about the rest of the bedroom? If helping kids stay organized is a challenge, you’re not alone. To help your kids keep their closet and room organized, there are a few factors to consider: parental influence, establishing habits, and having closet organizers.

Yes, encouraging your kids to stay organized and to put their toys and clothes away may help a bit, but if you don’t have proper organizers that makes it “easy” for the kids, a small discouragement of extra hassle can make this process 10x more difficult.

Without closet organizers all of your items will be on the floor. Without closet shelves , cabinets and drawers in the small closet , you may only have a hanging rod that doesn’t help much. The key to hassle-free organization is to have intuitive organizers for every item. If your children knows where items go without much thought or hassle, they’re more likely to use them.

Help Your Kids’ Closets Get Organized Once and For All

At L & B Closets in the Phoenix Area, we specialize in designing complete closet systems and organizers that are not only functional and attractive, but are also intuitive to use, making closet organization a breeze. Here are some organizers to incorporate into a custom closet.

Innovative Use of Hanging Rods

As your children are growing up and are using their own closets, it may be possible that they cannot reach high enough for the top hanging rods or top section of your storage. What can help with that is to install lower hanging rods. It may also be a great idea to have child high-rise step ladders (with safety bars) so they can reach the upper area of their closet space.

Labelled Drawers

The more drawers that are used, the more your child have to remember which belongs to which category of items. Some ways to counter this either to use less drawers and/or label them so there’s never any confusion. To go one step further, you can have an arts and craft project where they can somehow design their own labels, encouraging your kid to actually USE their closet organizers!

Cubbies with Bins

Like with most kids, there can be a plethora of toys of all shapes and sizes. The best way to keep these items organized are in a labelled clear bin placed in a cubby. If you keep a limited number of bins for toys, you can even tell your child that in order to get new toys, they will have to learn to let go of older toys, which you can donate at a local charity or at a community swap meet - only ideas, of course.

Hooks for Hanging Frequently Used Items

Hooks are very useful because they can prevent frequently used items like jackets, coats, scarves or even hats from being randomly placed in the room, adding clutter. By having something as simple as a few hooks, organization can become the path of least resistance.

Shoe Racks

From extra-curricular activities to increasing their fashion collection, your kids may need a solution to the organization of their shoes. It’s easy to pile up the shoes on the floor or kick them off somewhere. By having a designated shoe rack, they can keep their collection together and easy to see at a glance. The benefits of organization may even begin to make more sense to them.

Closet Cabinets and Shelves

Having a taller open cabinet is great for treasures and memorabilia. All children loves self-expression and creativity. By having that treasured space for your kids to decorate their own closets may encourage them to respect it more. When combined with the full custom closet system, they will be more inclined to use it. Shelves can also have other purposes to store other items like towels, hats, and even accessories.

Putting it Together

There was once a wise man who said, “If you don’t want your child to play with fire, don’t give them matches”. If you want your child to be organized, give them organizers.
